A Local Story, a New Chapter

Our story begins with Walter, affectionately known to long-time neighbours as Wallie.

In 1985, Walter purchased the property at 123 Bulleen Road, Balwyn North. Three years later, in 1988, he founded Bellevue Cellars—the beginning of a local story that continues today.

As Bellevue’s new owners, we’re proud to build on the foundations Wallie laid. We’ve kept the name and brought our own approach to the shelves: thoughtfully chosen wines, craft beer and spirits, alongside a welcoming wine bar where you can settle in for a glass.

We want to honour that history by looking after the people who come through the door—whether you’ve known the shop for years or are discovering it for the first time.

A familiar name, a new chapter, and a warm welcome to the neighbourhood.

The First Home of Lion’s Selection

Bellevue Cellars is the first flagship store of Lion’s Selection, our Melbourne-based wine curation business.

It gives our approach to wine a home: shelves to explore, wines to enjoy by the glass and conversations that help us understand what you like.

The connection works both ways. Our discoveries shape what arrives in store, and your feedback helps shape what we look for next.

We look for wines with character, balance and a price that makes sense.

That might be an unfamiliar variety from a small grower, a regional classic or a well-known producer whose wines continue to impress us. There’s room for everyday favourites and bottles worth saving for a special occasion.

Our selection is informed by tasting, producer knowledge and trusted independent reviews. Critics’ scores offer useful context; we also want to understand how a wine tastes, what makes it interesting and who might enjoy it.

When you ask for a recommendation, we start with you: your preferences, your plans and your budget.
